‘Control 235’ is an exploration into the craft and art of singing as well as an attempt to explain in the artists own conflicts between his logical and creative mind. Taking a broad idea of identity and searching for a perfection, (which has been shown in previous projects) and combining it with his ability to perform and sing. Gavin JR knows all to well through his vocal coaching lessons that singing is actually a very technical process, and singing correctly requires numerous elements, such as physical posture, breathing and even diet.

The ability to use the voice as an instrument is more of a craft than an art form. It is only when a song is performed, be it on stage or in front of a camera that it becomes more believable and creative. The power of stagecraft! of stagecraft
‘235’ - the amount of seconds (on this occasion) for the artists creativeness to surpass his controlled logical self.

Showing the power that music and the arts can have on an individual.
Mental conflicts between the logical and the creative mind - something that affects us all. Imagination and dreaming is something that is unexplainable and unique to each and everyone of us.

The artwork demands visual attention, and the silence allows the viewer to concentrate on the visuals. Unlike most music videos we see, we are stripped of the uncontrollable logical links between the moving image and the words being spoken.
‘Control 235‘ is on show at Friar Gate Studios—Derby.
3rd—8th June 2009.
